With Donald Trump winning the presidential election Tuesday night, we set the wayback machine to Oct. 10, 1985, when we first wrote about the developer upon his purchase of Mar-A-Lago, with the secondary headline reading “Trump Rumored To Be New Owner.”
He didn’t get the lead position in the paper that day — he ran in the left rail, as we call it in the biz — but we can assure you he will be the main focus in the paper for days — and years — to come.
For the record, the first reference we can find about Trump in The Post was a wire story on Nov. 27, 1980. His name was mentioned as one of many ultra-rich members of New York’s Le Club. The story ran on Page 18 of the features section.
He’s Page 1 material now.
